ORNAMENTAL PINEAPPLE

Ornamental pineapples are varieties of inedible wild pineapples with small fruits that are marketed as cut flowers. They have an exotic beauty, with strong colors. In addition to the native species, EMBRAPA has developed hybrid ones that have unique shape and color characteristics.

Ornamental pineapples have a much longer shelf life than other cut flowers. They are native flowers and therefore communicate our tropical, colorful and festive identity. Their unique colors and shapes are the result of hybridization processes carried out by Embrapa. Ornamental pineapples are extremely versatile and can be part of more classic, structured arrangements, taking the place of roses as the color point in the floral palette, as well as more contemporary, deconstructed arrangements that mix flowers and fruit. Due to the climate in which they are grown, they are available all year round.

DETAILS ON PRODUCTION CAPACITY, SEASONALITY AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

The farm has the capacity to produce up to 480,000 ornamental pineapple stems a year. Due to the year-round climate of temperatures above 25 degrees in the region where the farm is located, ornamental pineapples are available all year round.
