The bees of the species Apis Mellifera are not native to Brazil, they were introduced at the time of Brazil colony by the Jesuit priests in order to produce candles from wax, but they spread throughout the country. Until approximately the end of the 1960s only existed in Brazil bee breeds of the Apis gender originating from the European continent, it was when by accident also happened to the introduction of a breed originating from the African continent that naturally crossed with the species of European origin already existing, giving rise to the breed currently called Africanized.
